Baritone, General reneger of Cluj-Napuca Opera House

Originally from Oradea, Romania, baritone Florin Estefan began his musical journey at the Faculty of Music of the State University in his hometown and graduated from the prestigious “Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca in 2004. While still a student, at just 20 years old, he became a soloist at the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca. In December 2007, he completed his studies at the ”Cardiff International Academy of Voice”, where he had the privilege of studying under the guidence of the renowned tenor Dennis O’Neill.

In 2012, Florin Estefan returned to the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca as a soloist and, in February 2015, he was appointed General Manager of the esteemed institution. At the time, he became the youngest manager in the opera's 97-year history, leading Romania’s first established opera house with distinction.

In 2016, Mr. Estefan achieved the prestigious title of Doctor of Music from the ”Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca. That same year, he was named "Best Soloist of the Year" at the Bucharest National Opera Gala of the National Operas, for his exceptional portrayal of Evgheni Oneghin in the Romanian National Opera Cluj-Napoca's production of Tchaikovsky's opera.

Since completing his doctoral studies in 2017, Florin Estefan has been a dedicated teacher at the Gheorghe Dima National Academy of Music, where he currently works as a Doctoral Lecturer in the Singing Department.

Throughout his career, he has garnered numerous awards and has performed on prestigious stages in Romania and abroad, including countries like Greece, Austria, Italy, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Japan, the United States, Australia, Great Britain, Bulgaria, and Egypt. His repertoire includes iconic operatic roles and a rich symphonic and vocal repertoire.

As General Manager of the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca, Florin Estefan has significantly increased youth participation in the institution's performances, achieving a  demographic  audience of 72% young people. This was accomplished through innovative programming, numerous premieres, and special event performances. His commitment to accessibility and outreach is exemplified by initiatives like the Opera Aperta Festival, which brings opera to unconventional venues with free public access, providing a vibrant and inclusive cultural experience.
